How to de-grease your rims or metal wheel project before powder coating

It’s essential to prep metal rims or wheel project before powder coating. Removal of excess grease and dirt is not always expected but is a courtesy to your local custom coater. Failure to meet minimum prep may give the powder coater reason to charge you extra.  Be wary of harsh solvents like acetone, thinners and chemical strippers.  They can be too much for existing painted finishes and really messy to handle. We recommend Castrol Super Clean. It is premier product but any detergent based cleaners like simple green will do fine with a little more scrubbing.

Here’s how to de-grease your rims

  1. Green scratch pad or greenie about 5-6″ wide(gloves are optional)
  2. De-greaser or cleaner of your choice
  3. Bucket of water or access to a hose or sink
  4. Squirt your faviorte product and let sit for 3-5 min.
  5. Rinse, repeat if neccesary until clean
